IN BETWEEN SPACES
oil on canvas
I was born in Ohio and moved around quite a bit as a kid.
Those were mostly rural areas-
Rolling farmlands…
Cows…
Granaries.
I spent much of my time alone-
Walking through vast fields…
Exploring abandoned houses and barns…
Drinking in the beauty of my surroundings.
I took extra care to find lost or forgotten places… in between spaces.
I made myself a part of them whenever I could.
I felt a kind of calm there.
These seemingly ancient places whispered scenes of peace that my soul longed to share.
I’m in my 50’s now, a lot has changed.
I’ve found a home I never had and a kindred soul to get lost with.
I have a simple outlook-
Be present and enjoy the liminal spaces where you find them.
Lawrence, Kansas has been my home now for 3 years. I paint with oil and have done so for the past thirty-some years. I began clumsily with plein-air painting (which taught me a lot), and now I do most of my work in the studio. I’m very grateful to have a space from which to view the world around me and share my vision of it through my art.
Some of my work currently hangs in Kansas City Union Station Administrative offices, Visit KC, and the Kansas City Streetcar Authority.
